The main access to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is by federal highway number 15 Toluca-Zitácuaro. From this point in the direction of Morelia, near the town of San Felipe, there is a detour to take the state highway that connects the municipalities of Ocampo and Angangueo. By this same highway you can reach the municipalities of San José del Rincón and Villa Victoria in the state of Mexico or vice versa. This is one of the main routes because it allows access to the sanctuaries of Chivati-Huacal, Sierra Campanario, and Chincua.
Another route that can be taken is the Mexico-Morelia-Guadalajara highway and at the Maravatío junction, take the detour to Ciudad Hidalgo, take the Aporo turnoff and continue to Angangueo or Zitácuaro. To reach Altamirano Hill, take the Mexico-Morelia-Guadalajara highway and take the turnoff to Contepec. From Contepec, you can enter the Altamirano Hill sanctuary or take the Maravatío-Contepec state highway. - Transportation facilities

$60.37 MXN Entrance prices per person, per day, as collection of rights.
Senior citizens, pensioned and retired persons, disabled persons, and minors under 12 years of age will be exempt from the payment of fees, whose status will be accredited once they enter the Protected Area, if applicable, with the corresponding valid credential. A 50% discount will be applied to students and teachers with a valid credential, which must be presented upon entering the Protected Area.

Code of the responsible tourist:
1. During my tour I follow the established trails.
2. I follow the indications of the local guides.
3. I do not bring food, alcoholic beverages, sharp objects, firearms, or pets into the sanctuaries.
4. I do not take plants, animals, fungi, or any other element that is part of the forest.
5. I do not smoke or light campfires.
6. I respect the access limits for the observation of the Monarch butterfly colonies.
7. I remain silent during my stay in the sanctuary.
8. I do not use flash to take photographs.
9. I do not eat any food during my stay at the sanctuary.
10. I do not disturb, touch or take Monarch butterflies.
11. I do not stay more than 15 minutes inside the sanctuary, to give other people the opportunity to live this experience without altering the hibernation state of the Monarchs and to take care of my health and that of everyone.
12. I keep a healthy distance inside the sanctuary.
13. I use my mask correctly during my stay in the sanctuary.
14. I do not use sanitizers or antibacterial gel near Monarch butterfly colonies.
15. I do not throw garbage or masks inside the sanctuary.
